Thiri Winn Maung

Founder
Mori Burma Organic Cotton & Natural Dye

My name is Thiri Winn Maung. I’m founder of Mori Burma Organic Cotton & Natural Dye and I am 30 years old. I have graduated from the University of Computer Studies (Monywa). I am certificated in natural dyeing cotton and silk from Saungda weaving training of cottage industries in Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region, Myanmar.

There are quite a number of hand-loom and hand-spinning workshops around my native town. So I used to wear hand-loom pure cotton fabric that made with hand-spinning cotton since my childhood. And in 2017, I got an idea to help the local peoples by promoting the local products with organic hand-loom and hand-Spinning cotton. So I started my own business, Mori Burma and produce local products with organic hand-spinning cotton and natural dye.

Mori Burma is founded with a purpose of preserving and conserving the hundred years long-lasting traditional loom industry of the Indle and Kokkogyi villages locate in Budalin township, Sagaing region. Moreover, we intended to create job opportunities that the local women who are marginalize and under poverty can access from their home by doing their traditional business in those villages.

Raw materials come from the cotton fields are traditionally planted by using organic methods before processing into good quality hank and skein. Organically planted tubers and bulbs are used for dye and painting.

The main products of Mori Burma are:

  • Organic Cotton & Natural Dye fabric
  • Rusty Dye (Eco Dye) fabric
  • Embroidery Design clothes
  • Mud Cloth Design (made with hand painting on organic cotton fabric)

The factory of Mori Burma is located in my native town, Budalin Township, Sagaing Region, Burma. Currently we have about 20-25 local employees and all the products of Mori Burma are handmade.
